Georgian Dream left the Socialist Party of Europe, where she was an observer.
Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the ruling party, cites the ideological transformation of the European Socialist Party and the lack of support for the Georgian Dream as the reason.

“Unfortunately, from 2015 to the present, the Socialist Party of Europe has not made a single loud statement in support of the Georgian Dream. Moreover, individual representatives of the Socialist Party of Europe regularly joined political campaigns in support of the radical opposition. Under such conditions, the membership of the Georgian Dream in the Socialist Party of Europe did not play a positive role on the path of Georgia's European integration, on the contrary, it was completely counterproductive. From 2015 to the present, we have been continuously observing the ideological transformation of the Socialist Party of Europe - in recent years, this party has increasingly moved away from the social democratic ideology and switched to a pseudo-liberal platform. Based on the above decision, we have decided to refuse the status of an observer member of the European Socialist Party and other unions associated with the European Socialist Party," Irakli Kobakhidze said at a press conference today.
The ruling team's decision was preceded by information that Georgian Dream might be expelled from the Socialist Party of Europe. According to available information, the reason for this was the speech of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili at the international conference of conservatives.
